Yes the press seem to want to call it a recession, as this seems to be a way of selling more newspapers. Look at a few headlines from one esteemed paper over the weekend:

Treasury hits at hysteria; treasury officials have dismissed what they describe as hysteria over government borrowing!Bankers are forced to disclose pay; financial institutions will be made to give details of wages and bonuses of all high earners!
My shopping list, by the first lady of business; the new CBI chief Helen Alexander, wants a balanced budget by 2015!
Is the tide turning? Are we now coming out of the world recession? Or, as it seems to be, the press, still fuelling these headlines. After all, a lot of it is caused by greed and avarice and the fires fanned by trying to hide behind the word, “recession”.

During the last ten or so years some economists, pundits, journalists and city fortune tellers have attempted to give the impression that a push will help but unfortunately it has remained firmly stuck. So these same people have crawled back into their negaholic, despondency nests.

I feel myself that we could be seeing the end, unemployment may still rise in the first half of 2010, the banks are slowly realising that they will have to start helping small businesses again; although they have claimed, they haven’t stopped. Well I for one am determined to stop it gathering momentum with my clients and all the people and companies who read my blogs and articles. The United Kingdom can and will start talking itself out of this recession and the solution to this problem lies with us; all those small shop keepers, the small one person businesses, the people who have become home workers. Why? Because they are the very people who have become “Pro-active”, they are the people who have put their house on the line and used them to secure the borrowings. These same people whose “Visions and Dreams” have not faltered will be the ones who now have their plans in place for 2010. They stated that they have: -

1. A really positive attitude towards succeeding.
2. They are able to demonstrate leadership.
3. These people will stick to their “Visions and Dreams” and more importantly work on them.
4. They are people who “Play to win” and are not playing to lose.
5. They realised when this hiccup came that by going to networking events and plying their wares to a greater audience, was a way of saving advertising revenue but still marketing.
6. They are people who have looked hard at their clients and customers and taken the step of dropping those clients and customers that are not profitable and taking a long time to pay and concentrating on those who are profitable and pay on time.
7. They manage their creditors better and are not frightened to ask for better terms and discounts, or help when they need it
8. They are the ones who say “Recession – what recession?”
